AROUND BUDAPEST

Jewish Budapest Private Walking Tour

Discover the famous bohemian Jewish Quarter in Budapest!

Duration: 3 hours

If you’re interested in history, street food, going out or street art in Budapest, you can find it all in one place, in the Jewish Quarter.

During our tour we discover the depths and riches of Jewish heritage in the city. Dwelving in to Jewish history, I’ll show you the hidden Jewish treasures of the neighborhood with 3 synagogues.

We’ll take a look at the murals, that make the Jewish Quarter a true open air gallery; the kosher restaurants, and last but not least I’ll invite you in to the most authentic local ruin pubs and cultural centers which are the top meeting points for locals and party people.

Please keep in mind, the synagogues we visit on the tour are functioning religious places. On Friday afternoon, whole Saturday and on Jewish high holidays they are closed.

Itinerary

• First, we will meet at your hotel or cruise dock, and we go to Deák Ferenc Square. Here I will tell you about the pre-history of the Jewish Quarter.

• The first synagogue we will see is on Rumbach Street, optionally we can visit the building inside.

• The second synagogue is not other, but the largest European one in Dohány Street. We will visit the whole complex, including the Cemetary, the Heroes’ Temple and the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Garden with the Tree of Life Monument.

• After we leave the complex, we will be heading to explore the bohemian side of the Jewish Quarter with the interior visit of a famous, so-called ruin bar, the Szimpla Garden.

• The last synagogue of our triangle is the Kazinczy Street Orthodox Synagogue, a very special art nouveau treasure, optionally we can go inside the building too.

“Lovely, funny, informational and very original tour with Petra through the Jewish district and around the synagogues. Takes 2 to 2,5 hours but only feels like half an hour.”

“The five stars go to Petra, as the Jewish district walk was extremely interesting. Petra is an excellent guide, so well informed and she enriched us with an entertaining and gripping history of the area.”
